Do 1% Every Day

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”

— Bill Gates

Wild success happens incrementally.

Besides winning the lottery, how often does overnight success really happen?  Even when it does, like a celebrity actor bursts onto the scene through a particular television series, it’s not an accident.

It’s the accumulation of daily decisions.  It’s the commitment to 1% daily progress towards major goals.  It’s playing the long game.  It’s beginning with the end in mind, and having trust that each block will build the cathedral.

And there’s no other way.  There are no shortcuts to quality, no shortcuts to wisdom, no shortcuts to authentic excellence.

I get it.  It feels overwhelming to see where you are now and how far you have to go.  You feel frustrated, impatient.  You want to achieve as fast as possible.  You want to do everything.  You want to taste the sweetness right away.

But you can’t take 10 steps at once.  You can’t pull on a plant to make it grow.

So just take one acton a day.  And enjoy the journey.

You will blossom.
